Welcome to the UMF Family
Where Guides and Story Universes Come Together
Understand My Family (UMF) exists to make life gentler, clearer, and more connected for families, relatives, carers and schools supporting neurodivergent children — beginning with autism.
Our first resources begin with Understand, Not Overwhelm, an introductory guide written from inside the family for parents, grandparents, relatives, carers and family friends who want to understand an autistic child better without being buried in jargon, guilt or overwhelm.
Alongside the guide, UMF creates printable worksheet packs designed to help the people around a child share information, communicate more clearly, and support more calmly.
These practical resources are the starting point. Over time, UMF will grow into a wider family-support brand, with story worlds becoming the flagship — warm, funny and adventurous books where neurodivergent children and families can see themselves reflected, understood and celebrated.
What We Create Under the UMF Family Tree
The UMF Family Tree has 3 main branches
-
Family Guides
Our first booklet, Understand, Not Overwhelm, is an introductory guide for anyone who loves an autistic child and wants to understand and support them better without drowning in jargon or guilt.
-
Practical Worksheets
Our worksheet packs – Our Child at a Glance, Our Child at School, and Parent-Child Communication – are designed to be printed, shared, and used in real life with teachers, relatives, and your child. They help you turn “we don’t know where to start” into simple, structured conversations and clear information.

Future Story Universes
Alongside the guides, we’re developing a growing universe of fictional books:
illustrated stories for ages 4–8, and funny, warm chapter books for 9–12+ that put neurodivergent children and their families at the centre of the adventure. Introducing UMF Worlds. In the Henry's World series, we follow Henry, an autistic child, through his many adventures. Whether it’s a day out to the zoo, or the mysteries of Grandad Jim’s Garage, whether it’s an adventure with Santa Claus or helping the "Greyliens" who crash in his back garden fix their ship and get back home, Henry’s adventures are always fun!
